Hobart Family Relationship Centre
The Centre opened its doors at 178 Macquarie St, Hobart in July 2006. We’re located in a building erected in 1895 that was built as a family home by a leading Hobart identity of that era. In our own way, we are now building a reputation as a ‘place to go for family support’ in Hobart and in southern Tasmania.
The Centre is accessible to residents throughout the 63 and 64 areas of Tasmania through a range of facilities including telephone hook ups and video conferencing. Appointments can be made through our Outreach program that travels regularly to Zeehan, Burnie and Devonport.
Services
The principal forms of support we offer include:
- the provision of quality up-to-date information about services available for families in southern Tasmania, as well as access to printed, DVD based and electronic information
- rapid responses to requests for direct services from clients; we have a duty system whereby a Family Relationship Officer is available to see people ‘the same day’ where their issues are both complex and urgent
- assisted referrals to other service providers
- accessible services – we make use of telephone hook-ups and of video conferencing facilities to assist people unable to get to the Centre
- individual consultations to assess the needs of clients
- joint dispute resolution services
- child consultations and feedback to parents
- child minding – by appointment
- community education, from locations where parents are most likely to gather – for example schools, child care centres
- participation in community expos and forums
- regular liaison with legal and other professional practitioners
- production of a monthly newsletter
