Wellbeing of Relationships Australia Family Support Program Clients

In 2012, the Relationships Australia National Research Network worked together to collect data and assess the psychological distress levels among Family Support Program clients.

The survey of just over 4,000 clients revealed that 55% to 75% of clients accessing Family and Relationship Counselling Services and Family Dispute Resolution Mediation Services were experiencing medium to very high psychological distress levels.

Of the clients surveyed, 6% to 18% showed a 'very high distress' rate, which is indicative of psychological disorders including anxiety and/or depression. This rate is considerably higher than the 2.5% to 3.5% reported for the general population in Australian Bureau of Statistics national health surveys.
